Gary Oldman backs co-actor as he claims new James Bond has been cast

  • Actor Gary Oldman has claimed that the producers of the James Bond franchise have already selected the next 007 actor and that an official announcement will be made soon.
  • Oldman expressed his support for his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden, who has recently become a bookmakers' favourite to take over the iconic role following Daniel Craig's departure after 2021's No Time to Die.
  • The casting decision is being made by producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman alongside Dune director Denis Villeneuve, who has signed on to helm the upcoming instalment in the franchise.
  • Lowden is reportedly on the shortlist alongside other frontrunners for the role, including actors Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson.
  • Former Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams previously stressed the importance of selecting an actor who maintains a sense of enigma, while actor Rory Kinnear expressed hope for some continuity from the Daniel Craig era.
