Gary Neville hopes to see the Premier League big boys unsettled by an outside power in the coming years. For almost a decade, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have had a firm grip on the coveted Champions League places.
Dethroning the superpowers of English football is a daunting task. However, it is one Newcastle United are embarking on now the wealth of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is behind them.
Luring players without European competition to offer is difficult - as Newcastle have found out this summer. Whether it happens next year or in five years, qualifying will be a landmark moment in the Magpies’ quest for glory.

Despite being a lifelong Red Devil, Neville wants the “big six” to be ripped apart to avoid the league becoming a monopoly. In recent years, Everton have splashed the cash, but mismanagement and reckless spending place them in a worse position than before.
Speaking on the Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet, Neville said: “I want that top six disrupted. We need Everton and Newcastle, with the money that they're going to throw at this. We need that top six to be disrupted.
“It’s good for the league, good for the competitiveness. It’s (important) that they don't get the power base set so they think that they take all the Champions League money every single year.
“Then that gap doesn't just come between the Premier League and Championship, it comes between the top six and the other 14. We need that blend right the way through. West Ham, with the owners they've got, David Moyes is achieving the absolute heights.”
