Gary Neville unveils new 'British brasserie' to replace Tom Kerridge's Bull and Bear - and wants it to be 'one of the best restaurants in the North'

Gary Neville has announced a high-end 'British brasserie' will replace the Bull and Bear restaurant he ran with celebrity chef Tom Kerridge at the Stock Exchange hotel. Kerridge said he and Neville were 'parting ways' on the Manchester city centre venture last week.

Now Neville has revealed a new restaurant run by the Schofield brothers, the team behind award-winning Manchester cocktail bars Schofield's, Atomeca and Sterling, which opened in the basement of the Stock Exchange around six weeks ago, would be taking over.

At the helm will be head chef Joshua Reed-Cooper, who has previously worked at acclaimed restaurants The French, Where The Light Gets In and Mana, Manchester's only Michelin-starred restaurant. Opening in February the as yet unnamed eatery is described as a 'British Brasserie, with touches of elegance from continental Europe'.

In an Instagram video announcing the move said Neville said: "It was only a week ago that we announced we were going to be closing the Bull and Bear restaurant from January 1. We'll be open up to Christmas and then in January we would reset and that we'd be looking to bring a new partnership forward in February.

"I'm delighted to say we're announcing a new partnership with the team, from Sterling. We opened Sterling downstairs in the Stock Exchange about six weeks ago and we've decided to open up here, in the restaurant, a new concept and I'm really looking forward to it."

Joe Schofield said: "We aim to create one of the best restaurants in the North of England, right here at Stock Exchange Hotel which is a natural next step in our hospitality career. Using the core pillars of our brands, we will transform the former trading floor into a space destined for food and drink lovers, whilst providing an expectation-exceeding experience for the residents of the hotel."

Michelin Star holding chef Tom Kerridge opened the Bull and Bear. The luxurious hotel, based in the former stock exchange building, is co-owned by former Manchester United footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs' GG Hospitality and hotelier Winston Zahra.

The Bull & Bear restaurant, with Tom's menu, will serve up for the last time on December 31.
