Gary Neville believes Mauricio Pochettino could be the next Newcastle United manager after Eddie Howe. Eyebrows were raised by many when the Magpies appointed the 44-year-old one month after the Saudi-backed takeover was completed.
Howe had been out of work for 15 months, having parted company with Bournemouth following their relegation to the Championship. The former Cherries boss took charge when Newcastle were winless and lumbering in the relegation zone.
At the time, the consensus among supporters was that Howe would ultimately lay the foundations for an elite manager to take over the baton further down the track. However, the sheer scale of the transformation on Tyneside under his tutelage has endeared the manager to Toon supporters.

Players whose United careers looked over have been revitalised and his remit to keep Newcastle up was easily surpassed. A final-day victory against Burnley meant the Magpies - who only moved out of the bottom three in February - finished the campaign 14 points clear of relegation.

Toon chiefs were clearly impressed, too, as they rewarded Howe with a new long-term extension in the summer. Despite this, Neville still thinks his days are numbered at St James’ Park.
The Manchester United legend named Mauricio Pochettino as someone who will likely succeed the Newcastle boss in the coming years. Speaking to The Overlap, Neville said: “Eddie Howe will do the job for a couple of years at Newcastle, maybe longer.
“But I think at a certain point they will bring in a manager that will be a (Mauricio) Pochettino or a different (manager).”
