Gary Neville speaks out on 'unpleasant' incident involving Manchester United fans vs Forest

Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville spoke out on a worrying incident when an advertising hoarding collapsed in the aftermath of the Reds' third goal against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Erik ten Hag's side secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes. The Reds have a commanding lead in the tie and will be expected to confirm their place in the final when the two sides meet for the second-leg next Wednesday.

Rashford - who grabbed his 10th goal in as many matches - opened the scoring in the sixth minute of the clash, before Weghorst made it 2-0 with his first goal for the club since arriving on loan until the end of the campaign.

Fernandes put the result on the night beyond doubt in the final few minutes, with the Portuguese star's calm finish prompting wild celebrations in the away end of the City Ground. As the United fans rushed to celebrate with the Reds players, TV pictures showed an advertising hoarding fall over.

It caused several people to fall over, but thankfully, no one appeared to be injured during the incident.

"It was an unpleasant watch that for a moment or two," he said on co-commentary of the game. "But it looks like everybody’s okay over in that corner. They’re putting the advertising board back."

The convincing victory over Forest in the first-leg of the tie might allow Ten Hag to rotate his side for the second leg, but the Dutchman will be desperate to ensure United reach their first domestic cup final since 2018.

United will once again be in domestic cup action at the weekend as they face Championship side Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford.
