Gary Neville slammed the Manchester United squad and told the board to hire the candidate they want in a passionate rant on Sunday afternoon.
The respected pundit was reacting to rumours the players want Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager.
United are currently under the interim leadership of Ralf Rangnick, who is set to start a two-year consultancy gig at the end of the season.
Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the club legend warned against giving United's failing squad too much power following years of disappointment.
The Manchester club haven't won the Premier League or Champions League since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013.
Who do you think Manchester United should appoint as their next permanent manager? Let us know in the comments below!
"They're obviously going to appoint a new manager in the summer," said Neville. "I don't like reports of players wanting this manager or that manager, stay out of that.
"You're not in a position to be able to choose who the next manager is. Just get your own jobs right and make sure you're together and doing your bit right.
"If Mauricio Pochettino is the choice of the board they should appoint him, but they shouldn't appoint him just because the players think [they should].
"I'd hate to think, for one second, they're listening to the players in the dressing room.
"They've [the players] got big PR machines, they've got big social media teams... they're active and they have been for a good few months - and I've not liked it for a few months.
"At this moment in time, they're all looking after one another. 'Who do I want in next? I know him'... all that nonsense is happening behind the scenes at Manchester United.
"I don't know that from a point a view of intelligence - I don't speak to anyone in the club, I genuinely don't - but I can see it because I read the newspapers and I'm on social media.
"I see the stories coming out - so and so wants to leave, they want him as the manager of they want him as the manager - and I'm thinking, 'Oh my gosh.'"
United are enduring another season to forget. They've already been knocked out of the FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Premier League title race.
Their last hope of ending a five-year wait for silverware is the Champions League, with a two-legged tie against Spanish champions Atletico Madrid starting on February 23.
United are also in serious danger of missing out on a top-four finish. They're currently fifth in the Premier League, one point behind West Ham in fourth.
Arsenal, however, are just two points behind the Hammers in sixth with three games in hand. Wolves and Tottenham are also in the hunt.
Neville went on to criticise the United squad after rumours on Friday suggested they've "disrespectfully" nicknamed new assistant manager Chris Armas "Ted Lasso".
"The fact they were describing the number two of Ralf Rangnick as Ted Lasso, I didn't find it funny at all. I found it disrespectful, I found it disgusting," said Neville.
"In fact, it actually summed up what I think of them, they are disrespectful.
"I think if I was Ralf Rangnick and his number two, I would gain strength from that because I wouldn't want to be on the same page as some of those players who are leaking that story."
Neville added: "This Manchester United team are at it. Self-preservation, looking after one another, excuses all the time. Stop it. Go in, work as hard as you can, do the best you can, never give in.
"Represent you, your family, the club the very best you can every single game. If you get picked, go for it. If you don't get picked, support the lads on the pitch who are there.
"That's it. That's your job. Don't think of anything else in life. Don't try and be clever. Don't try to blame anyone else. Don't push your messages out thinking were going to bite.
"We're not buying it, none of us are buying it and the fans can see right through it."
