Gary Neville reveals what Cristiano Ronaldo said to him before Manchester United vs Liverpool FC

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has revealed the details of the conversation he had with Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the Reds' 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

Ronaldo, who started United's first win of the season on the bench, came across to speak to Neville and fellow former United teammate Roy Keane ahead of kick-off. Neville and Keane were part of Sky Sports' punditry team for the televised fixture and were conducting their pre-match analysis pitchside.

Having noticed the duo, Ronaldo, who was still going through his pre-match warm-up, jogged across to the side of the pitch and had a very brief conversation with the pair. The 37-year-old's conversation with Keane was captured on Sky's microphones, but Neville's chat with the striker was out of reach.

The details of their quick catch-up got people wondering what they may have been discussing, with the former Real Madrid man's future still up in the air. He wants to leave Old Trafford ahead of the transfer window slamming shut next week, as he remains determined to play in the Champions League.

However, Neville has revealed that their brief discussion was nothing more than a catch-up between two former teammates. He was prompted to reveal the details of the conversation by avid Ronaldo fan Piers Morgan, who posted on Twitter, responding to a video of Ronaldo coming over to chat to Neville: "I strongly suspect he wasn't showing Mr Neville any heartfelt gratitude for his recent observations either… care to tell us what he said to you?"

Neville responded to Morgan's tweet: "He [Ronaldo] said 'Are you good?' To which I replied 'yes, are you good?' He replied 'yes'. I replied 'all the best'.

"Were you expecting something else, Piers?"

Ronaldo, who has started just one of United's opening three Premier League matches this term, stepped off the bench in the closing stages of the contest, replacing Marcus Rashford, who netted United's second goal. The Portugal international was one of four players to be dropped from manager Erik ten Hag's starting line-up from the 4-0 defeat at Brentford.
