Gary Neville notices Alejandro Garnacho and Cristiano Ronaldo similarity amid concerns

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has compared Alejandro Garnacho's last-gasp winner for the Red Devils away at Fulham to a goal scored by Cristiano Ronaldo 15 years prior at the same stadium.

The Red Devils were second-best for much of the second half at Craven Cottage, with Christian Eriksen's first-half opener actually sparking the hosts into life after the interval. Ex-United star Dan James was the man to level things up just minutes after being introduced off the bench.

However, there was to be one last sting in the tale as Garnacho played a neat one-two with Eriksen in the last knockings of second-half stoppage time before calmly dispatching beyond the onrushing Bernd Leno to hand United all three points.

Latching on to the ball on the left side of the penalty area, the teenager was the calmest person inside the ground as he guided his effort into the bottom-right corner. The ball nestled in the net in a strikingly similar fashion to the way Ronaldo's goal did in February of 2007.

It was a coincidence that did not escape Neville's attention, as he mentioned it while praising United's man of the moment. "He’s got something about him, no doubt about it," the United legend explained.

"Bad attitude or not he can play, he's brought an energy since he come on, the speed, the one-two. I remember Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a solo goal from that side many many years ago that won United the game, but not as late as this.

"The speed to get past [Bobby] Decordova Reid, Erik ten Hag’s team have been really poor in the last 20 minutes but he sent that crowd into mayhem."

While the overall sentiment of Neville's analysis reflected positively on Garnacho, it did also address recent claims that the 18-year-old's attitude wasn't as good as it could have been in pre-season.

That is a claim that came directly from Garnacho's team-mate and a senior figure in the United dressing room in Bruno Fernandes.

Speaking earlier this month, Fernandes told BT Sport: "He was good, but he knows that we expect a lot from him, obviously he's still really young, he's doing really well. He was not at his best at the beginning of the season.

"On the tour, he didn't have the best attitude that he should have had, and that's why he didn't get his chances until now."

Garnacho has enjoyed a remarkable rise to the United first-team this month, bagging his first Europa League goal against Real Sociedad, two assists in 30 mins at home to Aston Villa before his last-gasp heroics at Craven Cottage.
