Gary Neville names three players crucial to Man City hopes of winning treble

Gary Neville has highlighted Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri as the three players Manchester City must keep fit for the remainder of the season.

The comments come after De Bruyne was deemed not fit enough to feature in the matchday squad against Fulham on Sunday. Pep Guardiola previously suggested the midfielder suffered from niggling leg issues that led to his early substitution in midweek versus Arsenal.

Neville does not envision City getting ahead of themselves as they seek to win the treble. Comparing them with the 1999 treble-winning United team he was a part of, the pundit insists every match is of the utmost importance due to what is at stake.

"I don’t think they’ll do that [endanger their treble chances by looking too far ahead] because every game is so important for them," Neville said on Sky Sports' Super Sunday coverage.

"It would be disappointing for them [if they didn’t win the treble] because when we won the treble back in 99’, there was no evidence to suggest we were better than the Arsenal team because they won the league and the double the year before. When you look at the actual Champions League final, Bayern Munich were an exceptional team, who had a better record in Europe than us, so we were, if you like, always doubted to the very end whether we could go through and do it.

"With City now, they’re so superior to the teams they’ve got left to play. Obviously, they do meet history in Real Madrid, in the Champions League semi-final, but then you’ve got to dismiss that type of thing - that’s emotion. It does exist in football sometimes where a team in a stadium can galvanise something, we’ve seen that before, but I think City now will really fancy themselves.

"They’re in such good form, all the players are fit. I’m not quite sure what’s happening with De Bruyne today and why he’s not in the squad - maybe we’ll find that out - but only injuries to Haaland, De Bruyne, and maybe Rodri, I feel, would leave a massive dent in their treble hopes. I’m keeping my fingers crossed something happens!"
