Gary Neville claims Leeds United 'aren't exciting anymore' in verdict on Marcelo Bielsa departure

Pundit Gary Neville has claimed Leeds United are not exciting anymore whilst delivering his verdict on the departure of head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

After clinching promotion to the top flight, the Whites lit up the division and won plenty of admirers with their swashbuckling style, which was implemented by Bielsa.

However, a dismal run of form has left the club hovering dangerously above the relegation zone and ultimately cost the Argentine his job.

Neville was scathing in his assessment of Leeds, who currently occupy 16th place in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Sky Sports website, he said: "There is a bit of sadness as when you went to watch Leeds you enjoyed great games but in the last few months it's become desperate. You go from admiration to despair when it comes to watching them.

"They aren't exciting anymore - just really bad. And really bad defensively in the last few months, conceding so many goals and chances.

"They have no respect for the opposition. We know Marcelo Bielsa has his values and principles which are never going to change but that has ultimately cost him."

A 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur proved to be the final straw and marked the Leeds' fourth consecutive league defeat.

The Whites are now managerless for the first time since 2018 and American coach Jesse Marsch has been strongly linked to the vacancy.

He is currently out of work having left German side RB Leipzig in December and therefore would not command a compensation fee.

If he does land the role vacated by the much-loved Bielsa before Saturday, he will have 12 games to save Leeds' top flight status.

Although Leeds are not currently sitting in the relegation zone, they are ahead of 18th-placed Burnley by just two points and the Clarets have played two less games.
