Gary Neville and Roy Keane slam Aaron Ramsdale after Arsenal defeat to Brighton

Aaron Ramsdale has been criticised by Manchester United legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane for his performance during Arsenal's 3-0 defeat against Brighton at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners were dealt a huge blow to their Premier League title hopes with Manchester City now four points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand on Mikel Arteta's side.

City can win their fifth Premier League title in six years with a win against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium next Sunday. Arteta criticised his players' performances in the second-half against the Seagulls and blamed himself for 'letting people down'.

Martin Odegaard admitted that the loss against Roberto De Zerbi's side felt as though the Gunners' chances of winning the title had now evaporated completely with City in pole position to finish top of the table. Goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan secured all three points for Brighton on a disappointing evening for Arsenal.

Following the defeat, Neville and Keane criticised Ramsdale for his role in the final goal for the Seagulls. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former said: "By this time Arsenal were being toyed with - they were absolutely being messed with by Brighton - it was sensational.

"I thought that was really poor from the goalkeeper. That’s a soft shot against him, he either has to catch it or he has to punch it really wide out for a throw-in.

"He [Ramsdale] cannot push that back into the boundary. Brighton are doing all the right things, they’ve got two or three players following in, Arsenal are not following in, but the goalkeeper’s got to do a lot better than that."

Keane agreed with Neville's assessment and felt that the Arsenal goalkeeper had to do a lot better to keep the score at 2-0. The United icon added: " The goalkeeper has got to either catch it or push it wide - really poor."

Arsenal now turn their attentions to preparing for their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest despite their title dream being seemingly over. The Gunners can use this season to build on ahead of next term after taking a huge step forward in their development under Arteta compared to the 2021/22 campaign.
