Former Manchester United full-back and pundit Gary Neville has highlighted Tottenham’s wing-backs as a problem for Antonio Conte, claiming the current options are "nowhere near good enough".
It comes after Spurs fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils at Old Trafford, where Cristiano Ronaldo stole the headlines with his hattrick.
The Portuguese forward opened the scoring with a long-range strike at the edge of the box, lifting the ball over the stretching hand of Hugo Lloris.
Harry Kane drew the Lilywhites level soon after, converting from the penalty spot after Diogo Dalot was penalised for a handball in the box.
Jadon Sancho then beat the offside trap of Tottenham soon after, playing a pass across the box for Ronaldo to score from a few yards out.
The second half saw the game swing again, as Harry Maguire turned the ball into his own net from a cross to bring the game level yet again.
But that didn’t last long as it was Ronaldo again, this time getting on the end of a corner to head his side into the lead for the final time in the game.
It was a game that Spurs may feel they shouldn’t have lost and puts them in a precarious position to finish in the top four.
After the game, Neville spoke on Sky Sports and highlighted the wing-backs as a problem area for Conte: "That system demands you have really good wing-backs and they’re nowhere near good enough.
"That system is critical on good wing-backs and Reguillon, Doherty on the right; quality isn’t there in both departments going forward and defensively.
"That’s a problem for them. If they had really good wingbacks, they’d be doing an awful lot better."
The wide positions are something that has undergone a lot of change since the Italian took charge, with Sergio Reguilon, Ryan Sessegnon, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty all struggling to secure a guaranteed starting place in the side.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane also added to the conversation, claiming Spurs are lacking quality other than theri two main threats in attack.
He said: "Spurs have very good players, Kane and Son; the rest are pretty average.
"That’s why the results are the way they are because Spurs aren’t good. They’re not bad on their day, everyone was delighted when they beat City because they done well, conceded two, beat Everton - who were all over the place.
"But this is still an average Spurs team, I’ve argued with Jamie who fight their corner, the results.
"They’re good going forward but they concede the three goals. Conte’s an emotional guy but get to the summer, he’ll want to go back and get in better. Spurs are not very good."
Where Tottenham go from here remains to be seen, with even more doubt thrown over their top four prospects after defeat at Old Trafford.
