Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher has disagreed on who should win the Premier League young player of the year award, barring Erling Haaland. The 22-year-old striker has spearheaded Manchester City's title defence this term, scoring an incredible 36 goals with fours games still left to be played.
Haaland is expected to hoover up a large majority of accolades at the end of this month, with the golden boot and PFA player of the year likely to already have his name etched into the plaques. So, to give other players in the Premier League a chance, Neville and Carragher argued who should be named young player of the season, aside from the Norway international.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show, the former Liverpool defender picked Bukayo Saka. Carragher claimed that he thought Martin Odegaard was too old to be considered as a 24year-old, so he opted for the Hale End star instead.

"I think he’s [Saka] been fantastic," said the 45-year-old. "I do think Odegaard has been Arsenal’s best player, I just didn’t pick Odegaard because I thought he was too old!
"To me, 24 does seem to be too old to be the young player [of the season]. I voted for Saka - Odegaard, that’s not a young player."
When asked the same question, Neville explained why he selected Odegaard as his young player of the year. The former Manchester United defender said: "We complain about the PFA rules on young player every year because it is up to 24.
"For me, I was shocked at the start of the season when I found out Odegaard was captain of Arsenal. I was like where’s that come from? I agree with Jamie [Carragher], he’s been Arsenal’s best player.
"Even in this last difficult period I think Odegaard has been outstanding, he really has. His quality on the ball, the way in which he plays, I think he’s a player that would fit into Manchester City’s team and go on there with real ease.
"I’d go with Saka - I think Saka plays football like we all want to play as a kid, he looks like he enjoys everything that he does and I love him to bits - but I think Odegaard’s been an outstanding player - THE outstanding player - for Arsenal this season, so he’s young player of the year."
