Gary Lineker sends reminder to Erik ten Hag over "seriously talented" Man Utd star

Gary Lineker has heaped praise on Manchester United youngster Amad after the Ivorian netted Sunderland's first goal in the first-leg play-off semi-final victory over Luton Town.

Amad has spent the season on loan at the Stadium of Light and has been a shining light for the Black Cats as they aim to return to the Premier League, having finished 6th in the Championship this season. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a loan spell that will be remembered by the Sunderland faithful long after he has returned to Old Trafford.

With 14 goals and three assists to his name, Amad has earned plenty of plaudits this term and Lineker is simply the latest to heap praise on the wide forward.

The Match of the Day presenter took to Twitter to write: "Stunning goal from the seriously talented Amad Diallo. A thing of beauty that levels it."

Amad's strike was nothing short of sensational, with his curling effort flying into the top left corner of the goal and leaving Luton keeper Ethan Horvath with no chance.

It was simply the latest high in a season full of them for Amad, who also won Sunderland's Young Player of the Year award.

Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray has discussed Amad's long-term prospects and conceded the odds of him remaining at the Stadium of Light beyond this season are slim.

"Amad loves football, he wants to play," Mowbray said back in April.

"If Manchester United sell him, they're going to want to recoup the money they spent. In my mind, the reality is he won't be coming here unless they decide he is going to be a hell of a player and needs another season on loan and loves it here. That would be ideal!

"It's pretty unlikely, I suggest, but if they feel he genuinely could play in their team down the line they'll want to keep him on board. I would suggest they'll try another level, though. You'd think he'd go to the Premier League, or maybe Serie A."

United boss Ten Hag has also recently opened up on Amad's Old Trafford prospect and confirmed he'll have chances to try and weave his influence at the Theatre of Dreams.

"Yes, of course," Ten Hag replied. "We loan such players to let them develop and make progress. To bring them back... that is the aim of a loan.

"We are really strong on them on the matter of the way we mentor them, and so we follow them and we have communication through all the season, especially (technical director) Darren Fletcher. He invests a lot in such processes and the aim is to bring them back as a better player and with better experience."
