Gary Lineker was among those left impressed by Liverpool's first-half display against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.
With Manchester City dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp's side had the opportunity to close the gap to nine points - with a clash against City and a game in hand still to come.
Still without Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita due to the African Cup of Nations, the performance once again showed the depth within the squad.
Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring with a powerful header from a corner, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then doubling the advantage.
The second goal came following excellent build-up play from Liverpool, with Andy Robertson's cross to the far post too high for Roberto Firmino but taken down excellently by Oxlade-Chamberlain - resulting in Robertson's second assist of the game.
Lineker was left impressed by the goal, taking to social media to express his praise as he said: "That's a helluva goal from LFC. Exquisite football."
The former Everton striker had also taken to Twitter after Van Dijk had broken the deadlock earlier in the half, stating: "Crikey! Van Dijk headed that so hard, he'd have hit the net if he'd been 20 yards out."
It wasn't all plain sailing for Klopp's side though, with Alisson forced into action to prevent Michael Olise from finding the net, while Jean-Philippe Mateta saw a great chance go begging after he rounded the Brazilian.
Victory would hand Liverpool a boost heading into the first international break of 2021, with another three weeks into the next Premier League fixture.
Liverpool face Cardiff City in the FA Cup in the first fixture after the break, before tackling Leicester City in the league.
