Gary Lineker sends joke plea to Pep Guardiola after Man City and Real Madrid play out a classic

Gary Lineker hopes the second leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid will be "more entertaining" than the first after their seven-goal thriller in the Champions League.

The Premier League and La Liga leaders exchanged blows in a breathless encounter at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne handed the Blues the lead inside two minutes and Gabriel Jesus doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later.

With City missing a handful of gilt-edged opportunities, Karim Benzema pulled Carlo Ancelotti's side back into the tie with a well-taken volley to halve the deficit. The game ended 4-3, with Benzema's penalty denying City a two-goal cushion ahead of the second leg next week.

Pep Guardiola's side suffered disappointment in last season's Champions League final. Having been favourites to claim the crown, Kai Havertz's strike proved to be the difference as Chelsea claimed their second Champions League trophy.

City's players left the Etihad field on Tuesday knowing their one-goal advantage didn't reflect their performance. Lineker hoped for more of the same in the Spanish capital, tweeting: "Hopefully the second leg will be more entertaining."
