Retired footballer and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker is reportedly set to return to the popular BBC show next weekend, amid speculation he and the BBC are close to resolving their row over his social media use.
Sources close to both the former England star and BBC bosses suggest there is "growing confidence" that the Mr Lineker will be back on TV screens on Saturday following a weekend which saw the broadcaster’s sports coverage suffer severe disruption. This came after the ex-professional footballer was told to stand back from the presenting role when he compared language used to launch a new Government asylum seeker policy with 1930s Germany in a tweet.
Geordie legend Alan Shearer was among the star name pundits, commentators and presenters to step down from working on BBC Sport output over the weekend. Others including Ian Wright and Alex Scott walked out in "solidarity" with Gary Lineker too.
