English footballing hero Gary Lineker has likened the Conservative party to English Championship outfit Watford after comparing the high turnover of Prime Ministers at 10 Downing Street to the trigger-happy behaviour of the Hertfordshire-based outfit.
The comparison comes after it was confirmed that Liz Truss had won the general election on Monday lunchtime, with the Oxford-born politician amassing 81,326 votes in her victory over rival Rishi Sunak, whose 60,399 votes were not enough to award him the title from the opinion-dividing Boris Johnson.
There is a complete lack of confidence in the Conservative party at present, with Truss' 57.4 per cent vote being the lowest wining margin of any Conservative leader of all-time in an election; and with just over 141,000 voting, you would be forgiven for believing that another leader in time in the not so distant future despite Truss ruling out the possibility of an early election in her speech.
Lineker poked fun at the possibility of an early election occurring, and noted the Conservatives' high turnover rates with Truss set to become the fourth PM in just six years. And, in a hilarious comparison, he made a reference to Watford's trigger-happy nature to highlight the uncertainty in the leadership of ranks in Westminster.
"Liz Truss will be the new Prime Minister and 4th in 6 years. They appear to be following the Watford FC policy," Lineker tweeted.
With the Hornets having had TEN leaders in the six years since David Cameron's exit, new boss Rob Edwards will be hoping that Lineker's words don't come true.
The Vicarage Road outfit, despite their high turnover, reached an FA Cup final and have been in the Premier League for six of the last eight seasons; and the Conservative party will be hoping that Lineker's jibe will bring them similar levels of success before the next general election in 2024.
The new PM, who has become the third female leader in the UK's history, gave a bizarre speech appearing to back Boris and claim that he is loved from 'Kyiv to Carlisle'.
"I will deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy," Truss said. "I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with people's energy bills, but also dealing with the long-term.
"I also want to thank our outgoing leader, my friend, Boris Johnson. Boris, you got Brexit done. You crushed Jeremy Corbyn. You rolled out the vaccine and you stood up to Vladimir Putin. You are admired from Kyiv to Carlisle."
