Gary Lineker and Ian Wright both heaped praise on Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez for his monstrous performance in the Red Devils' hard-fought 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.
The Argentine centre-back, 25, was instrumental as 10-man United hung onto all three points after midfield general Casemiro received a straight red card midway through the second half. Martinez's defensive nous served as the bedrock for Erik ten Hag 's side, as he produced a string of vital interventions to deny Palace a late equaliser.
Making good on the £57million which United paid Ajax for his services last summer, the recent World Cup winner with Argentina left Lineker and Wright wowed. "That defender, man, Martinez at the back, he is something," Arsenal legend Wright lauded on Match of the Day. Former England hero Lineker added: "He's gritty. Gritty. We saw a bit of that in Qatar."
