The tributes to legendary commentator John Motson continue to pour in following the news of his passing at age 77. Often known as 'Motty', he had worked on BBC's Match of the Day since 1971 and commentated on almost 2,500 televised games.
Motson's final game for Match of the Day was between Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion at Selhurst Park in 2018. After the game he was invited on to the pitch and applauded by the fans before Palace manager at the time, Roy Hodgson, presented him with a framed copy of the programme from his first and last matches at Selhurst Park and a crystal microphone.
Motson's services to sports broadcasting saw him be awarded an OBE in 2001. From 1979 to 2008 Motson was the BBC's voice on major finals such as the FA Cup, as well as covering 10 European Championships and 10 World Cups.
