Gary Barlow shares unusual post-show ritual that he enjoys with his dogs

Everyone knows that a dog is a man’s best friend, but for Gary Barlow, his pooches are also his perfect post-performance companion.

The 51-year-old Take That star owns two adorable dogs - a Pomeranian named Hugo and a terrier-spaniel mix named Cooksy - who he often hands the spotlight to on his social media posts.

But rather than just throwing sticks for the dogs to fetch, or taking the pooches on long summer walks, Gary says his four legged friends are perfect listeners.

The chart topping star is currently starring in a one man show called A Different Stage in the West End of London and he has explained that he incorporates his dogs into his post-performance ritual.

Gary explained to The Sun on Sunday: “After I finish, I usually just stay here and warm my voice down.

“Then, usually, by the time we’ve got out of here, said hello to everyone waiting outside, I head home and sit and talk to the dogs for a bit.”

He added: “Performing solo is always very different from being in the band.”

Earlier this year it was revealed that Gary is involved in the making of a TV show titled Dogs that is set to spoof the box-office disaster Cats.

The big screen film was released in 2019, directed by The Kings’ Speech director Tom Hopper and featured an all star cast that included Dame Judi Dench, pop hunk Jason Derulo and comedy star Rebel Wilson.

However, the film was a box-office disaster that was mauled by critics and failed to make money at the cinema.

Gary has reportedly written at least four songs for the TV show Dogs which will ruthlessly mock the Cats movie - which was adapted from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash stage musical.

Producer David Livingstone told British Comedy Guide back in April: "It's a very good script, really funny and I'm quite excited by it.

"We've been working on it for a year or more. There are people who've been in shows and films I'm associated with that are circling to be in it. And some people have come to us because they've heard about it.

“There are broadcasters who are engaging with it and significant acting agencies, both here and America as well.”

He added: “The bottom line is that there's a script, there are songs by Gary Barlow. We haven't got a home for it yet but we're out to broadcasters and I suspect we will soon. It's not an April Fool."
