Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop reckons his side are hitting form at the right time as they closed in on top spot in the West of Scotland First Division.
The MTC Park side beat Shotts 1-0 at home last midweek thanks to a Jordan Love strike and on Saturday Love was on target again as his equaliser earned a 1-1 draw when title rivals Benburb came calling.
Cairn have won five and drawn one in their last six outing and it leaves them just a point off league leaders St Cadoc’s with two games in hand.
And Dunlop, whose side have South Challenge Cup semi-final with Drumchapel tonight (Wednesday) before hosting St Roch’s in the league on Saturday, said: “We are in a good spot now in the league. It is all to play for.
“We are hitting form at the right part of the season. We are going well but we need to keep it going.
“It was a hard game against Shotts so I was delighted to get over the line in that one.
“On Saturday the wind spoiled the game. In the first half they had the wind and it was very difficult for us to get out because of how strong it was.
“But in the second half we played some good stuff and equalised. A draw was probably a fair result.
“Now we have to prepare for St Roch’s, who have won their last three matches so that will be a difficult one for us on Saturday.”
The cup semi-final with league rivals Drumchapel is another chance for Gartcairn to pick up silverware this season and Dunlop’s men already know they will face Spartans in the final if they progress.
He said: “I think there were 163 teams or something at the start of the competition, so to get to the last four is good in itself. But when you get to this stage, you want to get to the final.
“We’ve been involved in a lot of big games this year and that is testament to how well the players have done.”
