Gartcairn can benefit from Premier Sports Cup unrest, says boss

Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop says patience is the key to bolstering his squad – and could benefit from Premier Sports Cup fall-out.

Dunlop says with League One and Two clubs playing in the group stages from this weekend, bosses will look to settle their line-ups.

But that might mean players falling out of favour, who will then seek to move on, or head out on loan.

The 39-year-old says he’s happy enough with his squad at MTC Park, but also needs to strengthen for the West of Scotland League First Division season.

And that could mean biding his time.

Dunlop explained: “I think the squad is good just now and I am happy with it, but there are a few positions where we’ll definitely need to strengthen.

“The most important thing is being patient, because you have to make sure that whoever you’re bringing in is going to improve the squad.

“I think it’s just a waiting game, because you’ll have teams in League One and Two who have the Premier Sports Cup group sections starting on July 9 and 10.

“Once they’ve played those you’ll maybe start to see players who are not happy that they’re not getting a lot of game-time, and then it all kind of trickles down.

“As much as there’s maybe not anybody available at this stage that you would look to strengthen your squad with, that’s not to say that, in another two or three weeks, players that you wouldn’t have thought of might be available.

“So it’s just important to be patient and make sure that when we are adding to the squad now it’s definitely bringing value to us.

“I’m relatively happy with where we are just now. There’s still a lot of work to be done but all in all we’re pretty pleased.”
