Gareth Southgate told the 'perfect' way to use Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold

Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has given his verdict on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s chances of featuring at the World Cup.

The Liverpool right-back was selected in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for this winter’s tournament in Qatar. Reds skipper Jordan Henderson was also picked for the travelling squad, but there is no place for Joe Gomez.

Alexander-Arnold is one of three right-backs chosen by Southgate in the England squad. Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier have also been selected for the World Cup.

Redknapp, who was heavily linked with the Three Lions job during his career, has explained why he would start Alexander-Arnold at the World Cup. The 75-year-old believes Southgate could tactically accommodate the Liverpool defender in his starting line-up.

“At the back, I’d play Trent Alexander-Arnold as a right wing back,” Redknapp told BetVictor .

“I think he’s perfect for that position, he gets caught out defensively at times, but I do think in the system that I would want to play that we can cover for him.

“And then you want somebody behind him on that right side who can get out there and feel comfortable if they’re drawn out in that right side.”
