Singer-songwriter Gareth Gates has shared his fears over an upcoming interview that he has on BBC Breakfast next week. The former Pop Idol runner-up captioned a powerful Instagram post in which he outlined why he is scared saying: “It’s important we face our fears and not let them control who we are and what we do; Only then, can we grow.”
In the video, which has received hundreds of supportive comments, Gareth began by saying: “I’ve been asked to do an interview on BBC Breakfast next week live and I’m filled with anxiety, I’m having sleepless nights over it.
“I’ve done thousands of these interviews in the past but my speech in that particular speaking situation at the minute isn’t great and I absolutely know I’m going to find it a real struggle.”
The 38-year-old, who has opened up about his battle with a stammer in the past, continued: “And so I have to ask myself, do I let the fear control me and and take over me and say no to the interview? Or do I face it head on knowing full well that I’m going to find it a challenge but to not let fear win?
“I’d like to encourage anyone who’s in a similar situation to me to not let fear get the better of you. That thing that you’re putting off or you’re avoiding to face it head on and only then will you actually start to see that fear diminish and get smaller and smaller.
“If we keep on saying no to these situations then it’s just going to grow and grow and control our lives. You will next week see me on BBC Breakfast even if I find it really challenging. Why? Because I refuse to let fear control my life.”
Upon posting the emotive video, Gareth was met with countless comments of support. “Legend,” one person replied
A second commented: “Amazing words and also so humbling. You got this 1000%.” And a third agreed, writing: “You will be amazing. You have inspired so many already. We are all here to support you beauts.” For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
