Gareth Bale's Real Madrid career finally ends with a night on the bench and a 19th trophy

Gareth Bale's Real Madrid career is officially over.

The Wales star's contract with the Spanish giants expires next month, and his 2021/22 club season has come to an end. The final game of his career with the current La Liga champions saw the 32-year-old fail to get off the bench as Carlo Ancelotti's men beat Liverpool 1-0 to win the Champions League in Paris.

On a personal note, it typified what has been a bitter end to what started as a glorious career with Los Blancos for Wales's talisman. He won a total of 19 trophies during his career in Spain, with his tally of Champions League successes now standing at five.

Injuries have played a key part in his diminished impact in recent seasons at club level, with Bale making just seven appearances for Real Madrid this term.

Following nine years in Madrid, Bale is a free agent for the first time in his career. The Cardiff-born ace is now set to link-up with his Wales team-mates ahead of their five fixtures in June.

Rob Page's men host Scotland or Ukraine in the World Cup play-off final at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, June 5 while they also play four Nations League matches. Bale made 258 appearances for Real Madrid and scored 106 goals.
