Garden Rescue: Charlie Dimmock puts couple at a loss for words after £5k garden transformation

A family featured on Garden Rescue was left lost for words after Charlie Dimmock worked her magic on their tired garden. The latest instalment of the BBC show, which aired on Tuesday night, June 27, saw the team head over the Severn Bridge to Port Talbot, Wales.

Couple John and Helen were keen to turn their garden into a little piece of Cornwall for less than £5,000. Helen was born in Cornwall but relocated to Wales with her parents when she was very young, WalesOnline reports.

Explaining her vision for the garden, Helen reminisced on her childhood. She said: "I love the coast and I miss Cornwall desperately."

In addition to making their garden an alluring space to spend their free time in, John and Helen wanted their outdoor area to appeal to the local wildlife. The couple wanted to grow their own fruit and vegetables in the garden, and encourage more birds to visit.

After Charlie got to work on the garden, it was totally transformed into a haven awash with colour and coastal vibes. The garden expert and her team gave the space a new lease of life by erecting a central sandstone patio with a dry stone wall and relaxing water feature, planting inspired by Cornwall, a range of produce-filled pots, and several of the couple's beloved garden ornaments.

"Oh my goodness!" Helen exclaimed as she set eyes on their revamped garden. "Look at that."

John added: "I’m not normally speechless but this is absolutely fantastic. This is exactly what we envisaged our Cornish garden would look like."

John and Helen's joy comes after Garden Rescue was previously blasted for a "tacky" renovation of a Derbyshire garden. Speaking about Charlie's work on a garden in Mickleover, Derby, one person said on social media at the time: "£3,000 for that. 2 huge exhausts sticking out a water feature and the new turf looked awful, gaps where it all joined poor workmanship."

Garden Rescue is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
