A 600-year-old Medieval cannon bought for under £20 from a flea market and used to decorate a garden rockery has fetched £2,600 at auction. The bronze gun powder weapon was used as a garden ornament after being bought, but its owner had no idea of what it was worth.
But they were left stunned after experts revealed it was a Medieval artefact dating back to the 1400s which was valued at thousands of pounds. It went under the hammer at Hansons Auctioneers, where it sold for £2,600 - more than a hundred times its flea market price.
Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: “It’s a rockery rocket of a find. The bronze hand cannon was brought at a flea market in Hertfordshire for less than £20.
