Gardai cordoned off a street in Dublin city after shots were fired.
A gun was discharged at around 11.45am on Wednesday at Donore Avenue in Dublin 8.
Gardai rushed to the area but as soon as officers arrived, the people suspected of firing the shots fled the scene.
No one was injured in the incident but the scene has been sealed off as members of the force carry out an investigation.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact gardai.
A garda spokesperson said: "At approximately 11.45am Gardaí received reports of a firearm being discharged at Donore Ave, Dublin 8.
"It’s understood those involved had fled the scene in a car on arrival of Gardaí.
"There are currently no reports of any injuries. The scene is preserved for examination.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Kevin Street Garda Station 01 6669400."
