A man is fighting for life in hospital after a horror crash between a car and a HGV truck.
The incident happened on the N5 at Swinford in Co Mayo at around 12.25am in the early hours of Wednesday.
Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene after the crash on the stretch of road between Charlestown and Swinford.
Two people inside the car were seriously injured in the collision, with a man in his 70s who was a passenger in the vehicle brought to Mayo University Hospital.
He is currently fighting for his life with his condition described as critical.
A woman in her 50s who was also in the car was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and her condition is described as serious.
The driver of the car is also receiving treatment in Mayo University Hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The N5 has been closed between Swinford and Charlestown and traffic diversions are in place.
And officers are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash, or who has any information about the incident, to come forward.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the N5 in Swinford, Co. Mayo. The incident happened at approximately 12.25am this morning, Wednesday 9th February 2022.
"Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any person who was travelling on the N5 between Charlestown and Swinford last night between midnight and 1.00am and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage, is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
"Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
"Investigations are ongoing."
