A driver who overtook gardai while travelling at 220km/h has been arrested by officers this afternoon in Cork.
Officers were overtaken by the motorist blitzing the speed limit on the M8 near Fermoy.
The unmarked garda car quickly tore after the reckless driver before pulling them over and making the arrest.
They are set to appear in court at a later date.
A garda spokesperson said: "The driver of this car was observed travelling in excess of 220 kilometres per hour on the M8 near Fermoy. At this speed, he failed to observe the unmarked Roads Policing Unit car which he overtook and was arrested for dangerous driving. He has been charged to appear at Fermoy District Court and now faces heavy penalties if convicted.
"The good weather should make driving more enjoyable and safer, if we observe speed limits and adjust our driving according to road conditions. Don’t put other road users at risk to save seconds off your journey."
