A man has been arrested in Dublin as part of Gardai investigations into cyber offences online and dangerous "smishing" scams.
The arrest happened on Thursday morning and saw officers attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau and the DMR South Central Detective Unit.
They investigated a premises in Ballymun and arrested one male during the probe.
The man, aged in his 20s, is currently detained under the provisions of Section 50 the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at Ballymun Garda station and can be detained for up to 7 days.
A garda spokesman said: "This investigation is part of Operation KRYPTOS, an operation that is part of ongoing investigations into cyber offending online and the sending of bogus ‘smishing’ text messages to victims throughout the country."
"Smishing" is a type of scam that sees a fraudster use a text message to trick targeted recipients into clicking a link.
There has been a serious increase in the crime in the last two years.
