Gardai carrying out a checkpoint in Dublin on Friday found a huge amount of drugs inside one car they stopped.
Officers stopped the car in Darndale around 8.30pm and went on to search the vehicle.
Inside, they found cocaine worth an estimated €77,000 as well as suspected cannabis worth a further €2,000.
The drugs were seized and will be sent for further analysis.
The driver, a man aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene.
He was taken to Coolock Garda Station and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act, 1996, but has since been released with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai have seized €79,000 in combined drugs and arrested a man following a search in Dublin on Friday, March 4, 2022.
“Gardai were conducting a checkpoint in the Darndale area of Dublin when they stopped a car travelling at approximately 8.30pm. Following a search of this vehicle, cocaine worth an estimated value of €77,000 was seized and a further €2,000 in suspected cannabis herb was also found. The drugs seized will now be sent for further analysis.
“A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Coolock Garda Station where he was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act, 1996. The man has since been released and a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Investigations ongoing.”
Gardai have been carrying out checkpoints across Ireland in recent days.
Giving updates on Twitter, they told how fines were issued to a number of drivers for various offences, while dozens were tested for alcohol and drugs.
They wrote: “Gardai from DMR East Roads Policing carried out checkpoints in the Dalkey and Killiney area on Friday. FCPN's were issued to a number of drivers for tax and insurance offences.
“35 people were tested for alcohol and drugs with one positive test for alcohol. Driver arrested.”
