What started out as a routine checkpoint soon spiralled into carnage.
As officers carried out their duties, two drivers had other plans in mind. Determined to evade gardai, they barreled towards the town at high speed.
But their bid to avoid being stopped took an unexpected turn as the two vehicles crashed into each other.
The Naas Roads Policing Unit wasted no time springing into action. Not only did the collision result in the arrests of both drivers, but it also led to the seizure of their cars.
Gardai shared a picture of the wreckage on Twitter, saying: “Naas Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a checkpoint in Calverstown when they saw these two cars speeding towards the town.
“They attempted to avoid the checkpoint and collided with each other. Both drivers were arrested and their cars were seized. #SaferRoads #SlowDown.”
Gardai are being praised for their swift response, while some social media comments also poked fun at incident.
“Instant karma,” one person replied.
Another added: “Comedy gold.”
A third joked: “Dumb and dumber.”
Someone else told gardai: “Great job.”
