Garda catch taxi driver out in strange incident in Dublin

Gardai on patrol in Dublin city centre caught a taxi driver in breach of Irish road rules.

Officers pulled the driver over in recent days and after a swift check they found an offence.

Gardai took note of the taxi ID displayed on the dashboard and quickly realised that the person driving the car was not the same as pictured on the official document.

In a post on Twitter, officials confirmed that: "The Commercial Vehicle Unit intercepted a taxi in Dublin city centre recently.

"It was found that the driver was not the person on the identification photo displayed.

“Proceedings to follow for the driver and the owner."

According to Irish law, all taxi drivers have to display an official ID card and have proof of identity on them while operating as a Commercial Vehicle.

It is against the law to operate as a taxi in Ireland in place of the licensed driver displayed on the dashboard.

Drivers can face prosecution and fines, while in the case of repeat offences, they can even face jail time.
