Gang 'threaten to go after gay couple's family' after spotting them holding hands in Temple Bar

A married couple were subject to verbal abuse and harassment by eight men as they walked through Temple Bar last night.

The two men were "minding their own business" and were holding hands as they walked down Eustace Street.

One of the men told Dublin Live that the gang were hanging outside their cars when they began to laugh at the couple.

He said the group then got into their cars and "slowly crawled the entire way down the street hurling abuse" while recording the couple on their phones.

The couple crossed onto the Millennium Bridge and the gang "ran out of their cars and squared up" to the two men.

The couple were then targeted with threats such as "we have yous on camera" and "we will go after your family".

When the couple told the group that they had rung gardai, they "ran back to their cars shouting abuse".

One of the men targeted said that around 50 people witnessed the incident and "stood and just listened".

He called the gang's behaviour "disgusting" and said: "I may have responded in ways that riled them up but I couldn’t stay quiet while we were being abused so openly in front of people."

Dublin Live has contacted An Garda Siochana for comment.
