Gang promising govt jobs busted, 4 held in Patna

PATNA: The Patna police claimed to have busted a gang and arrested four of its members for allegedly duping people by promising to get them government jobs and getting them qualify exams.

Those arrested were identified as Ashwini Saurabh of Nalanda, Tanesh Kumar of Maner, Rupesh Kumar of Bakhtiyarpur and Shivshankar Kumar of Bikram. Several laptops, hidden cameras, 19 hard discs, five Wi-Fi routers and Rs 19 lakh in cash were recovered from them in Danapur.

Atul Vats, the gang’s main leader, is absconding, Patna SSP Manavjit Singh Dhillon said. An SIT was formed in response to arrest the gang members who had duped people on the pretext of giving them jobs and clearing their exams.

“They charged Rs2 lakh from each candidate for assisting them in passing the exam and placing them in government offices. Original certificates of approximately 70 candidates were also found from them,” he added.

The SSP further stated, “Ashwini also set up an online examination centre in Muzaffarpur, which is currently under investigation. They teamed up with some online examination centre staff and took a photo of the question paper as it loaded onto the computer using a hidden camera attached to a sanitizer/water bottle. They then solved the candidates’ papers using magnetic earpieces.”

Criminals demand Rs 1 crore from ex-MLC: Unidentified criminals allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore as extortion from former JD(U) MLC Dinesh Prasad Singh almost a month ago.

Chandra Bhushan Kumar, the outgoing MLC’s private secretary, filed a complaint with the Sadar police station in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday, police said.

According to the FIR filed, Chandra Bhushan stated that on February 4, Dinesh received a call on his cellphone from an unknown number.

“The caller informed me that he had sent a message. He demanded Rs 1 crore from the former MLC in the message that contained the names of Phuldev and Umesh Bhagat.”

Muzaffarpur (City) DSP Ram Naresh Paswan said two people, including the owner of the cellphone from which the message originated, were being interrogated.
