GameStop has partnered with Uber Eats to bring on-demand delivery of video games, consoles, accessories, and collectibles to customers across the United States.
The partnership was announced through a joint press release from Uber and GameStop, marking one of the largest gaming retailers to join Uber Eats' growing retail marketplace.
GameStop, Uber Eats Brings Same-Day Delivery
According to a new release from Uber and GameStop, a new partnership is here to fulfill one of the most intuitive services for gamers, and that is a same-day delivery experience for all things gaming.
Customers can now browse and order directly from GameStop locations nationwide through the Uber Eats app, with both scheduled and on-demand delivery options available. The move continues Uber Eats' push beyond food delivery, as the platform has added retail categories including grocery, beauty, home improvement, office supplies, pet supplies, and electronics over the past several years.
Hashim Amin, Uber's Head of Grocery and Retail for North America, said consumers "increasingly expect gaming essentials and collectibles to be available on demand."
This is whether they are replacing a controller before game night, picking up a new release on launch day, or grabbing a last-minute gift.
He added that bringing GameStop onto Uber Eats strengthens the platform's gaming and electronics selection while giving customers access to a trusted retailer with the same speed and convenience Uber is known for.
GameStop, Uber Eats to Fulfill Physical Games, Etc.
Ordering through the partnership works similarly to any other Uber Eats purchase. Customers open the app, navigate to the Retail or Electronics category, search for GameStop, and browse available games, consoles, accessories, and collectibles.
From there, shoppers can add items to their cart, select a delivery window, and track their order in real time once it's placed.
GameStop is described in the release as a retailer of video games, trading cards, and collectibles, positioning this partnership as a way to modernize how customers access physical gaming products without needing to visit a store in person.
The rollout adds another distribution channel for GameStop at a time when the company has been actively working to diversify its business beyond traditional in-store sales.
GameStop, Uber Eats Partnership
According to GameRant, this new delivery partnership comes as GameStop continues pursuing a much larger corporate move, as it bids to acquire eBay.
CEO Ryan Cohen first proposed the deal in May, offering to buy all outstanding eBay shares at 125 dollars each in a mix of cash and GameStop stock, valuing the offer at roughly 56 billion dollars.
eBay's board rejected the proposal, calling it neither credible nor attractive and raising concerns about GameStop's financing plan and corporate governance.
Despite the rejection, Cohen has continued pushing for the acquisition. In June, GameStop announced that Cohen had voluntarily withdrawn a proposed CEO performance award that could have been worth as much as 35 billion dollars.
At that time, he stated he wanted company leadership fully focused on GameStop's operating performance and its pursuit of eBay.
The award, approved by GameStop's board back in January, would have required Cohen to grow the company's market value more than tenfold and sharply increase profitability to qualify.
GameStop has said it plans to share additional details soon regarding its strategic case for the proposed eBay acquisition.
