Game testers wanted for Glasgow’s new gaming bar

Glasgow’s new arcade bar brand NQ64 is calling for players to games test its tech ahead of the official opening in March.

The new basement venue is looking for volunteer players to test retro arcades and classic consoles, all while having an exclusive first look at the neon-splattered venue.

The options include pinball machines, Pac-Man, Guitar Hero, Time Crisis, and consoles like the SNES, MegaDrive, Gamecube and PlayStation. The chosen few will also enjoy complimentary drinks from the bar, in return for feedback on the night.

NQ64 will welcome games testers on 14 and 15 March at the space in Glasgow’s Merchant Square, ahead of opening to the public on 18 March.

Taking over the former Distrikt club on Bell Street, the adult-only venue will be covered in graffiti and complete with a multitude of gaming experiences, craft beers and game-themed cocktails.

NQ64 founder Matt Robson said: “Working day and night, our team is on site preparing neon graffiti, bespoke lighting, brand new cocktails and gaming rooms that come together for an amazing night out.

“If you fancy helping us test our games and booze out, then follow us on Instagram, and when you see the post go out about games testers just follow the instructions.”

Separately, Lane7's arcade at St James Quarter in Edinburgh, which opened last year, is launching a new attraction – a mini-golf course called I Like Big Putts.

The futuristic 14-hole course will be opening in a month’s time, after the company invested £700,000 in its creation.

The venue already offers shuffleboard, interactive darts pods, shooting alleys and arcades, alongside its bowling lanes.

Graeme Smith, chief operating officer for Lane7, said: “After such a warm welcome by locals, it was a no-brainer to add our new mini-golf concept; adding to our unique blend of premium activities all available in one under one roof.”

Jennifer Laseen, food and beverage director at St James Quarter, said: “The brand’s signature neon golf cart has been quite the talking point since we opened with many of our guests using it as a great photo opportunity.”
