It would have been easy for Trey Haynes to lose his head, especially when considering he had already lost his helmet. And not just lost a helmet, but had it ripped off by an official last week during a game.
The player at the center of a most unusual confrontation with a game official has been partly vindicated, while that same official is now being investigated.
Haynes, a high school football player at Whitney High School (Whitney, Texas), was simply trying to make a play last Friday. Following a collision with a game official, Haynes had his helmet ripped off by the official.
And if that wasn’t enough, Haynes was also ejected from the game.
On Tuesday, the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL), which oversees the organization and administration of 14 different sports in Texas, released a statement that reversed Haynes’s game ejection.

In the official statement, the Texas UIL also said that it is investing the game official at the center of this incident:
“Additionally, the official involved has been removed from officiating UIL games pending the completion of a thorough investigation.”

Haynes had 13 tackles including three tackles for a loss and interception as well as a 15-yard rushing touchdown as Whitney improved to 5-0 on the season.
