Game of Thrones actor John Bradley recently shared his reasons for not watching the prequel series House of the Dragon. Bradley, known for his role as Samwell Tarly in Game of Thrones, is among several original cast members who have opted out of viewing the new show, including Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke.
In a discussion about his new project '3 Body Problem' with the New York Post, Bradley explained that he has not yet watched House of the Dragon. He mentioned that Game of Thrones had a broader scope with a diverse range of characters spread across the Seven Kingdoms, showcasing a mix of vulnerable, comedic, strong, and evil characters. In contrast, House of the Dragon appears more focused on a specific narrative and a particular segment of humanity, which Bradley feels limits its scope.
While acknowledging the positive reception of House of the Dragon from those he has spoken to, Bradley highlighted the differences between the two series. Game of Thrones featured a vast universe that traversed various locations, providing a rich tapestry of characters from different walks of life. On the other hand, House of the Dragon primarily centers around King's Landing and the Targaryen family, offering a narrower view of the world.
Bradley noted that the characters in House of the Dragon are generally less likable compared to the more balanced cast of Game of Thrones. This shift in character dynamics aligns with the prequel's focus on the Targaryen family's internal conflicts and power struggles, leading to the downfall of their dynasty.
Despite the differences, both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have garnered critical acclaim and are available for streaming on Max. The Game of Thrones franchise, originally based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, continues to captivate audiences with its intricate storytelling and complex characters.
