Galway Races 2022 was lucky with the weather all week as the serious rain held off from Monday to Thursday.
However, Met Éireann's prediction of heavy downpours hitting Galway city on Friday afternoon and early evening came to pass.
The forecasters had said Friday would start cloudy with a sunny spells and that clouds would thicken into showers and that eventually persistent rain would set us up for miserable weekend.

As Galway Beo note, if you had taken that unfortunate bet, you'd have plucked a Race Week winner as the heavens opened in the afternoon before breaking to a cloudy evening.
One punter summed it up perfectly as they shared an image of a rained-out Ballybrit. "Galway being Galway" read the caption on the photo of the sopping race course.
Rain has continued into the night on Saturday with scattered showers. Lowest temperatures of 12 to 17 degrees Celsius are expected with a moderate northwest breeze.
Sunday morning will be patchy rain ease into dry patches in the afternoon but Met Éireann says the rain will return in the evening with a light northwest or variable wind. Highest temperatures of 17 to 23 degrees.
