The PWC 2022 football All-Star nominations have been announced today, and one county in particular is fuming that one of their star men was snubbed.
Galway GAA fans are stunned that Tribesman half-back Kieran Molloy hasn't been nominated for the prestigious award. The Corofin man played practically every minute of Galway's championship campaign and was a key player in Padraic Joyce's side that reached a first All Ireland final in 21 years.
Many felt the half back was a shoe-in for an All-Star nomination at the very least. And when fans realised that Molloy's name didn't appear on the 45-man shortlist, they took to Twitter to express their outrage.
Shane wrote, "He was very solid all year. Kieran molloy and Dylan McHugh should be nominated for all stars as well."
"No All Star *nomination* for Kieran Molloy is as bad a decision as you’ll ever see," Tweeted Enda.
Darragh tweeted, "How in the name of Jaysus did Con O’Callaghan get an All-Star nomination and Kieran Molloy didn’t?"
While Eoin said, "Jarly Og Burns getting a nomination ahead of Kieran Molloy and Dylan McHugh is absolutely laughable #allstars
#gaa."
Plenty of GAA fans feel that Molloy should have been nominated ahead of other players that they felt were less deserving of a nomination. Numerous fans questioned how Dublin stars James McCarthy and Con O'Callaghan got nominated, given their lack of Championship game time this season in comparison to Molloy.
Twitter user Tháigh shares this sentiment, "Can someone tell me how james mccarty and Con gets an all star nomination and only play 2 or 3 games combined in championships?"
"Surely Kieran Molloy was due a nomination over either man."
While Donegal legend Eamon McGee chimed in, "Think the whole All-Star selection thing needs rejigged for the modern game. Molloy at the very least deserves a nomination and you’d wonder at some of the names in ahead of him."
Molloy had his best season in a Galway shirt this term and was instrumental in tightening up the Connacht side's traditionally leaky defence. His attacking input was excellent this year too, with Molloy kicking crucial points in both the quarter-final and final of the All Ireland.
Unsurprisingly, Kerry lead the way on All star nominations this year. The All Ireland winners have twelve panel members nominated for honours, while star forward David Clifford id the hot favourite to be names 2022 footballer of the year.
