Galopin Des Champs went into the Gold Cup as heavy favourite to claim one of the most coveted prizes in horse racing, closely followed by Bravemansgame. A Plus Tard was among the frontrunners with the 13 runners with the chance of a Gold Cup double in the cards and pushed the winner all the way. Ahoy Senor was looking to take the famous trophy north of the border to Perth's as the odds tumbled ahead of the race on a victory.
The Scottish horse had looked to be on course for a victory but fell when leading at the final ditch. All three fallers during the sprint returned to their feet. With the curtain set to come down on the festival Record Sport's Garry Owen's NAPs have come up on two of the four days after he tipped Marine Nationale in the Greatest Show on Turf’s opener at 9-2.
