Local enthusiasts have reacted with delight to news that the National Vintage Tractor Road Run is coming to Galloway – for the first time ever.
The spectacular event, billed as NVTRR 2023, will be hosted by local club Glenluce Vintage Tractors.
The annual occasion attracts hundreds of vintage machines from across the United Kingdom and Ireland which either arrive under their own steam or on trailers.
NVTRR 2023 organiser, Creetown man Stewart Birse, was thrilled to learn that Galloway had been selected to host the prestigious rally.
He said: “Glenluce Vintage Tractors are honoured to host this event.
“It is only the fourth time it has been held in Scotland since it was founded in 1987.
“So far we have got entries from as far afield as Cornwall and a lot of interest from Irish vintage tractor enthusiasts.
“The NVTRR traditionally attracts from 300 to 600 vintage tractors and we hope it will bring a large number of participants and spectators to our scenic area.”
The event which will be held at Kirkland Airfield near Kirkcolm, by kind permission of the Milroy Family, during the Easter weekend of April 7-9.
Mr Birse added: “The NVTRR 2023 committee is currently busy making arrangements and attending tractor road runs and vintage rallies to promote our event.
“The route will pass through Stranraer, Leswalt, Ervie and Kirkcolm, taking in excellent views of Lochryan and surrounding area.
“NVTRR 2023 has nominated three charities to benefit from the road run – Cancer Research UK, Dumfries And Galloway Blood Bikes and Wigtownshire Multiple Sclerosis Group.”
Since forming in 2001, Glenluce Vintage Tractors has raised more than £70,000 for local charities from its annual rally and road run.
