Gabriel Martinelli's Arsenal prediction starting to come true amid Leeds United win

Arsenal made it nine wins from their opening ten Premier League games with victory over Leeds United on Sunday. The Gunners held onto win 1-0 at Elland Road despite an onslaught of Leeds pressure towards the end of the game.

Bukayo Saka's first-half goal was the difference on the day but Mikel Arteta's side rode their luck in Yorkshire. Having seen a goal disallowed, a penalty missed, another overturned, and a red card changed to a yellow, it would be fair to say that Leeds deserved at least a point for their efforts.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will be glad about the fact they came away with all-three. 27 points from a possible 30 means that they've had their best ever start to a domestic league season.

The Gunners have impressed in Europe too, winning three from three in the Europa League. They sit top of Group A heading into Thursday evening's clash with PSV and a win at the Emirates will see them qualify for the next round of the competition.

Arteta's project in north London is therefore very much underway. Whilst it took a while for things to get going, the players have always believed that they can get to the very top.

Speaking back in March, Gabriel Martinelli hailed his team as one capable of becoming "one of the best in the world." It seemed a bit trivial at the time but many must now be wondering whether he was right.

"We are so young," Martinelli told The Athletic. "The oldest player in the game against City (back in August 2021) was Laca [Alexandre Lacazette], but a lot of players are 22, 23, 24.

"We have time to improve and we are going to do that. One hundred percent — we will be one of the best teams in the world."

Perhaps Martinelli's prediction is coming true. Arsenal sit four points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and are proving to be extremely difficult to beat. Whether they can continue their outstanding form remains to be seen but Gunners fans will be enjoying the ride nonetheless.
