Gabriel Jesus receives Arsenal dig with Liverpool's Darwin Nunez preferred

Gabriel Jesus and Darwin Nunez couldn't have had more differing starts to their careers at their new clubs. This summer, big things were expected of the strikers who were the marquee signings for Arsenal and Liverpool, respectively.

So far, one has hit the heights that many were predicting, while the other has struggled to adapt to life at his new club. Jesus has eight goal contributions in as many games for the Gunners, while Nunez has scored once in seven appearances across all competitions.

The Brazilian has brought a winning mentality and an immense amount of quality to the Gunners' attack, with his £45 million transfer fee looking like a bargain in the current market. Liverpool haven't yet got their money's worth for club-record signing Nunez, who signed for £85 million in July.

Even though Jesus has had a far bigger impact on Arsenal than Nunez has on Liverpool, former Reds defender Steve Nicol has said that he wouldn't swap the Liverpool striker for the 25-year-old. He believes Jesus hasn't shown his quality on a consistent enough basis since he came to the Premier League in 2017.

"No, no, not at all," replied Nicol on ESPN when asked if he'd swap Jesus with Nunez.

"Because I think the upside of Darwin Nunez is better than the upside of Jesus. Let's be honest Jesus has been in the Premier League for how many years? Five? And all of a sudden, yes, he is playing great, but at the end of the day, he has had a great spell.

"He did have a good spell at the end of his City career, but we are talking about a guy who has been in the Premier League for five years and who has had a good spell for the last four or five months, and yes he has been great for these eight or nine games that Arsenal have had.

"So I think the upside of Nunez is more than Jesus. He has already been in the Premier League for five years, and nobody has said a word about him, all of a sudden, he is a superstar, is he?"
