Gabriel Jesus makes Arsenal injury return against Fulham to hand Mikel Arteta title boost

Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus marked his return to action on Sunday in the 3-0 win over Fulham.

The forward had been out of action since suffering a medial collateral ligament injury during Brazil's World Cup group stage defeat to Cameroon in November. Jesus was eventually forced to undergo surgery, handing the Gunners a major blow in their title race.

Mikel Arteta's men continued their remarkable campaign without their Brazilian talisman, with Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard coming into the frontline.

Jesus was pictured back in training on Wednesday prior to the Gunners' Europa League trip to Sporting CP but was not named in the squad. However, despite Arteta remaining coy on his possible return, Jesus returned to the pitch 120 days after last appearing for the club.

The 25-year-old replaced Trossard - who assisted all three goals at Craven Cottage - in the 77th-minute and was greeted with a chorus of cheers from the travelling Arsenal fans.

Jesus was unlucky not to mark his return with a goal in the final six minutes when his attempt from close distance was saved by Bernd Leno. Despite not finding the back of the net, having the former Manchester City man available for the first time since November is a major boost for the Gunners ahead of the final 12 games of the season.

Thursday's second-leg against Sporting is another opportunity for him to gain some extra minutes in the tank before a possible start could be on the cards against Crystal Palace next Sunday (March 19) or after the international break.
