Gabriel Jesus has already answered Arsenal's big striker question quelling transfer fears

"But, is Gabriel Jesus the world-class striker Arsenal needs?"

The question that Arsenal supporters found themselves questioning when debating the No.9 that was the person to come through and take the mantle for the forthcoming season. From viral clips of commentators preferring Richarlison, to question marks raised over Jesus' own desire to play the striker role, it is fair to say doubts were rife.

However, (and yes, it is still early), Gabriel Jesus has been nothing short of sensational since he stepped onto the field in Nurnberg and rocketed in his first Arsenal goal within 90 seconds. His pre-season continued to be brilliant, and he has been the catalyst for Arsenal’s opening two victories of the new Premier League campaign.

His presence has not only brought more goals to the position, having now already achieved half of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Premier League individual goal tallies from last season, but it has elevated those around him. His movement and skill baffled the Palace defenders.

It was chances created with the help of what Jesus brought that earned Arsenal the three points at Selhurst Park. He got two goals against Leicester, but also two assists and could have had more had he and his teammates been that little bit more clinical.

Another question and one which still lingers in discussion is on Jesus' profile. Very similar to Eddie Nketiah in the sense their small, diminutive frames, low centre of gravity and raw pace. Questions were raised about whether Arsenal needed a greater aerial threat. I even asked the question myself, and believed it.

However, the days of Kieran Tierney being Arsenal’s biggest offensive threat thanks to his persistent crossing are done. Arsenal play a style with the ball on the floor.

Only leaving the surface now and again for either an in-swinging ball like seen with Jesus’ second goal against Sevilla in the Emirates Cup or a little dinked pass over the defenders to find an incisive runner.

Arsenal don’t need the classic traditional No.9 with the way Mikel Arteta has got this side playing. Dusan Vlahovic? Juventus, you can have him.

One slight concern is the lack of depth in the role. The thought of Jesus going missing with an injury is such a scary thought it is even more credit to the Brazilian for what he has already added.

I like Nketiah, I have a lot more faith in him to deliver than I did a year ago, that is for certain. However, having an added wide player with the scope to successfully cover centrally remains my priority for the window over a midfielder.

To compete at the top, you need strength in depth but most of all some luck. Arsenal haven't had that but hopefully this season they get it and get closer to their ultimate goals; Jesus will be pivotal and can certainly be called world-class.
