Gabriel Agbonlahor snaps back at Jurgen Klopp live on air as unlikely feud continues

Gabby Agbonlahor has continued his war of words with Jurgen Klopp, taking aim at the Liverpool manager live on air.

Former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor had attracted Klopp's attention with his comments about Manchester United ahead of their game against Liverpool on Monday. It prompted a surprise defence of the Red Devils from Klopp, who couldn't resist a dig at the ex-footballer for his part in Villa's hammering against the reigning FA Cup winners back in 2016.

Agbonlahor decided to push back, reminding the Liverpool boss of his winner at Anfield back in 2014. And now the 35-year-old has added more fuel to the fire live on air.

"It was not a nice week for United after Brentford," Klopp said on Friday. "We forget how good Brentford are.

"I watched the first half and then radio, talkSPORT. Gabby Agbonlahor... I was close to calling in! He wasn't a mentality monster when we beat Villa 6-0."

Liverpool are winless ahead of their trip to Old Trafford, though the same goes for their opponents. Klopp's team have two draws from two, compared to two defeats for United, but Agbonlahor wasn't afraid to have another pop at the German.

"When I've seen it and seen the clip I'm thinking 'come on Jurgen. It's a bit too much, isn't it?'" Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT's GameDay Phone-in show.

"I've got bosses at talkSPORT that I answer to, and if my reaction to Manchester United being 4-0 down is too much, I'm sure I would have heard about that. I don't need Jurgen Klopp to tell me how to be a pundit - he needs to concentrate on being a manager.

"He wouldn't take advice off me as a coach, would he, so I'm not going to take advice off Jurgen Klopp. But it's settled now.

Agbonlahor went on to suggest there could be more than meets the eye to Klopp's comments, before jokingly inviting the former Borussia Dortmund boss for a heart-to-heart.. Liverpool could find themselves seven points behind reigning champions Manchester City by the time they kick off on Monday night, and dropped points against Fulham and Crystal Palace mean his team can't afford too many more slip-ups if they want to remain in the title race.

"Very strange for him to back Manchester United, but he might be playing mind games," Agbonlahor continued. Maybe he's a bit nervous about Monday night.

"If they don't get a result against Manchester United he wants to make out that Brentford are better than what they actually are. But Jurgen, if you're listening, I'm available for a chat any time."
